Panel Highlights Careers for Veterans in the Life Science and Medical Technology Fields

A recent event held at Elekta outside of Atlanta focused on the many technically oriented career opportunities for military veterans in the life science and medical technology fields. The panel discussion featured speakers, including U.S. Rep. Tom Price, MD (R-Ga.), Dunwoody (Ga.) Mayor Denis Shortal and Mike Grice, board of directors, MVPvets (Lt. Col. USMC, Ret.), who spoke about the highly valuable leadership and technical skill sets veterans gain during their military service and bring to civilian jobs in healthcare, and encouraged veterans to consider careers in the life sciences industry where these skills are valued.

Veterans can learn more about whether a career in life sciences is an appropriate career option by visiting the website for MVPvets, an organization focused on assisting and preparing transitioning military veterans for meaningful employment with life science companies.

“The life sciences industry is a vibrant contributor to economic development in the U.S., and medical technology companies in particular provide uniquely challenging, stimulating and meaningful careers for people with military backgrounds. Elekta is a proud employer of veterans and active reserve duty military personnel, with 80 percent of our engineering and technical positions held by veterans, in addition to a number of executive level roles,” said Bill Yaeger, executive vice president, Region North America, Elekta (former Marine corporal).
