Looking for an online school? Want this school to have a great veteran focus and lots of programs? Oh, and wouldn’t it be nice if it were a private, not-for-profit academic institution too?
Let’s check out the University of Northwestern Ohio; you might like what you see. (Bonus, I hear they have a Pizza Hut on campus.) OK, maybe not, but you could totally call Pizza Hut delivery while studying from home.
UNOH has many university leaders and employees who have served their country. So they understand the time commitment and dedication that every service member must give in order to serve. The university has always been proud to be a strong supporter of the military, and it strives to do everything possible to help servicemen and women better their lives through continuing education.
UNOH hosts a variety of degrees in the traditional spectrum, as well as completely online. If you’re interested in business, healthcare, marketing and accounting, you will find a solid program here. They also offer some two-year degrees. Additionally, for those interested in graduate work within the field of business administration, UNOH offers an MBA program.
If online classes aren’t for you, the University of Northwestern Ohio campus in Lima, Ohio, offers these programs and others in the traditional classroom setting. I doubled-checked and, OK … it doesn’t look like there’s a Pizza Hut on campus. BUT, it looks like UNOH is constructing a new student social space called Racers Station with promises of pool tables and karaoke. The student life page also features photos of students covered in mud and students gathering around tables with Mountain Dew. If that doesn’t make you feel at home and all veteran-y, I don’t know what does. Maybe a lack of showers?
With their military and veteran population in mind, University of Northwestern Ohio shows its commitment by capping its tuition for some degrees at the current tuition assistance threshold, as well as offering a 10-percent discount for other programs. Interestingly, they mentioned their support of the Pat Tillman Foundation, which assists with the costs of childcare, among other expenses, for student veterans. While the foundation is not unique to UNOH, it does offer a great opportunity for veterans with families, making school even more accessible.
And yes! UNOH will transfer your military experience for college credit. Woo hoo! All that training counts for something! Be sure to get that Joint Service Transcript so they can evaluate it for credit.
If you are still on active or reserve duty, UNOH offers flexible policies for withdrawal due to deployments and missions. Service members can choose special withdrawals or additional extensions for assignments in these cases.
One of the first things I investigate when looking at the military friendliness of a college is the presence of a veteran office or representative. In many colleges, this important role is one among many. UNOH lists two POCs for veteran affairs. If you have any further questions about their programs or how to enroll I encourage you to take a look at their Military Student page.
There you have it: UNOH – one of our Military Friendly® Schools. Take a look, do your research and find your happy place.
