todd fowlerTell us about yourself:

The online culture however has had its challenges, but I am able to achieve so much more with it being on my time table and the flexibility to do school around my odd working hours.

What prompted you to return to school?

I have always loved business besides the ministry yet I had to make a choice which one to study. Now with the GI bill I can pursue both dreams and even work towards a Doctorate.

What military education benefits, such as the GI Bill, did you use?

G.I. Bill; I had to pay for my first masters in Theology with the help of some tuition assistance. The 9/11 GI Bill enabled me to continue on for my doctorate.

What has your experience been like as a student?

I have enjoyed my time at Amridge tremendously, from the professional advisor I receive from Carl Byrd to the many talented instructors.

What challenges did you have adjusting to campus culture after military life?

My time at the campus has been very limited. The online culture however has had its challenges, but I am able to achieve so much more with it being on my time table and the flexibility to do school around my odd working hours.

Do you believe your military experience has made you a better student?

Yes,I take advantage of the fantastic educational benefits our country affords us for our sacrifice. We never know when our time in the service will end and increasing your education will make you more marketable in the civilian world once that time comes.

What advice do you have for veterans returning to school?

The military teaches you how to be flexible and how to pay attention to detail while working very hard at the same time. This is exactly what’s needed in the online environment so the two complement each other.

Additional comments:

Another benefit the online environment affords us at Amridge is the ability to watch class lectures more than once. In a traditional classroom, once the lecture is over you are left with whatever notes you were able to scribble down while the professor speaks. Live and archived lectures allows for multiple views. With this system, I was able to take classes while I was deployed to Kuwait because the time difference didn’t matter and government systems allow the schools software.
