The Army has announced that veterans who participated in chemical or biological substance testing between 1942 and 1975 may be eligible for healthcare if they have an injury or disease that they believe was caused by their participation.
This announcement comes in light of a class action lawsuit filed by the Vietnam Veterans of America against the U.S. Army requiring that the Army provide medical care to anyone who volunteered and helped advance the U.S chemical and biological programs.
Eligible veterans who wish to apply must have a Department of Defense Form 214 or War Department discharge/separation form or the functional equivalent. A receipt for the drugs or vaccinations which they tested under the U.S. Army investigational drug review is also required. Their medical condition must be clinically diagnosed.
Medical care or medications will be provided at the nearest military medical care center that is able to take new patients. This medical care is supplemental to the care veterans are eligible to receive based on their status as a retired service member.
