Central Texas College Success Profile – Michael Jackel

Michael Jackel

Tell us about yourself:

I’m married with two sons and I’m a wheel-vehicle mechanic in the army. In high school I was a good student at first but got into the wrong crowd. I dropped out, got my GED and then joined the Army. I’m trying to retire in the military – I have 12 years left. The goal is to be a Warrant Officer.

What prompted you to return to school?

CTC talks a lot about bettering yourself by pursing an education, so that was my main goal: bettering myself for my career in the army. That’s what helped me get promoted to Sergeant. So I realized it’s pretty important to be in school and I’m going to keep going. I just applied for graduation for my associate and I’m going to keep going for my bachelor’s.

Why did you choose Central Texas College?

I got stationed at Ft. Hood and CTC was there.

What has your experience been like as a student?

Getting back into school has made me feel better about myself by improving my education. I always thought it would be so hard to finish college and now I’m already over halfway towards my bachelor’s. I’m really happy I decided to do this.

Do you believe your military experience has made you a better student?

Yes.

What advice do you have for veterans returning to school?

I think CTC is a popular school for people in the Army. I recommend it for everybody. If you want to go to school in the Army, CTC is one of the best you can go to. They offer so much credit. They transfer all of your military education over. It’s just a really good deal. It’s an accredited school so you can transfer that credit anywhere once you finish.
