From the files of, “Wait, that’s a job?” comes brewmaster.

Yes, for every beer, there is a person, equal parts scientist and artist, who manages the brewing process and certifies that the beverage is ready for thirsty customers.

Unfortunately for most of us, a resume made up of experience tasting and re-tasting the beverage is not going to get you the job. Brewmasters often have degrees in chemistry or a related subject, and years of experience in brewing.

In Germany, where a head brewer has the somehow even cooler sounding title of “braumeister,” it’s not uncommon for them to have an actual master’s degree. None of this should scare you off. It’s true that willingly sampling beer is not going to get you the job, but it might provide you with the desire to go back to school for that chemistry degree so you can get an entry-level brewer position.

Unlimited beer might be only four years away.
