Your GI Bill® is one of your most valuable post-service benefits, but using it wisely takes planning. Here’s how to avoid common mistakes and get the most out of it.
Don’t Make These Costly GI Bill® Mistakes
- Not Having a Career Goal – If you don’t know where you’re headed, you might waste your benefits on a degree you don’t use.
- Skipping FAFSA – Even with the GI Bill®, you could qualify for Pell Grants or other financial aid.
- Choosing the Wrong School – Some schools aren’t Military Friendly®. Do your research.
- Not Transferring Benefits – If you’re still in uniform and considering transferring your benefits to family, do it before you leave the military.
- Ignoring TAP (Transition Assistance Program) – This program is designed to help you. Use it!
