Tracy Steele is the Chief Operating Officer for the Council for Military Spouse Clubs and the San Diego-based Military Spouse Fellowship Program Manager for Hiring Our Heroes. As a military spouse for 19 years, she learned to leverage strategic volunteering opportunities with military spouse organizations to make a complete career transition from nursing to workforce development. She continues to make strategic choices of connecting and contributing with the military and local communities to help other military spouses realize their marketable skills and leverage those for economic opportunity.
Sue Hoppin
Founder and President
National Military Spouse Network
Sue Hoppin is a nationally recognized expert on military spouse and family issues, working to bridge the cultural gap between government, private and public groups and military communities. She is an advocate, published author and consultant with more than 20 years of experience and expertise in military community programs.
Hoppin currently serves on the Veterans Advisory Committee on Education, which advises the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, as a member of the War Horse News Board of Directors and the Madeira School Board of Trustees, and as President of the Madeira School Alumni Council. In 2012, she was appointed by President Obama to the Board of Visitors of the United States Air Force Academy, completing her tenure in 2018 as the board’s Vice Chairman. Hoppin founded the National Military Spouse Network (NMSN), a professional development and networking membership organization supporting the professional career and entrepreneurial goals of military spouses, in 2010. Before founding the NMSN, she served as the first Deputy Director for spouse outreach for the Military Officers Association of America, charged with creating and spearheading military spouse initiatives for the 375,000 member association. In 2007, she co-authored, “A Family’s Guide to the Military” for the popular Dummies series.
Jennifer Akin, MPA

Blue Star Families
Jennifer Akin is Blue Star Families’ first Chief of Staff, serving as a trusted advisor and brainstorming partner to the CEO and executive team as they lead Blue Star Families through a critical high-growth period. In her former role as Senior Director of Policy and Social Impact Research, Jenny was responsible for overseeing Blue Star Families’ policy, social impact, member research, and program evaluation efforts. She is a national thought leader on military life issues and led groundbreaking, first of their kind research studies to understand the unique experiences of military and Veteran families of color, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on military and Veteran families, perceptions of the COVID-19 vaccine, and barriers to seeking financial assistance, among other things.
Prior to joining Blue Star Families in 2018, Jenny acquired nearly a decade of experience in the private sector and academia, supporting national security-related programs at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, serving as a military policy fellow for the University of North Carolina system, and working in business development for a small defense contractor.
