Farmers Insurance recently honored three veterans who have fallen on difficult times at the annual Carry The Load 20-hour Memorial March in Dallas. Dallas, Texas district manager, Cathy Weeks, represented Farmers at the event and she presented gifts of reliable transportation on Memorial Day weekend on behalf of Farmers. The veterans were overjoyed by the donated vehicles, which will help them get back on their feet.
“It was great that Farmers helped these veterans in need and to be a part of that was amazing,” said Weeks, who has been with Farmers since 1995 and has been a district manager since 1997. “It gave me such a strong sense of pride in my company.”
One recipient, a former Air Force sergeant, did not expect to be a single parent, homeless, with five children. She received a 2010 Kia Forte from Farmers.
The second recipient, a former Air Force traffic controller, was comfortably providing for his family until his employer of 15 years sold the company and left him unemployed. He was presented with a 2001 Infiniti QX4 from Farmers.
The third recipient, a former U.S. Navy seaman, had a steady career as a plumber until an injury left him struggling financially. He received a 2008 Lincoln MKZ from Farmers.
“It was amazing,” said Weeks, who also spoke at the event. “I was so proud to represent Farmers Insurance as we gifted vehicles to them. They were all very deserving veterans, and they were so appreciative of the vehicles.”
Carry The Load is a 20-hour Memorial Day event honoring and thanking members of the military, law enforcement, firefighters and their families for the sacrifices they make. Veterans, families and friends walked throughout the night along Dallas’ Katy Trail carrying backpacks with the names of service men and women who died defending our country. The event organizers recognized the walkers who raised the most money, walked the furthest and carried the heaviest load. The event raised over $1 million, which will be used to further support veterans in need.
“As I was walking to my car, two service men stopped me to thank me and Farmers for our participation in the event,” said Weeks. “I wish I could bottle and share the tremendous feeling of pride and gratitude I felt as a participant in Carry the Load.”
